10 Terrific QuickBooks Extras

11/11/2009

Business StrategyWith millions of small and medium businesses using QuickBooks to manage their financial affairs, the industry for QuickBooks “add-ons” has blossomed. Add-on programs are essential to many small and mid-sized businesses because they are often the only way to get industry-specific or highly specialized functions. They’re great for adding extra capabilities in key areas such as inventory, time and project tracking, invoicing, e-commerce and others.

Every year, The Sleeter Group – a premier network of small business technology consultants – names a new list of winners in its “Awesome Add-ons for QuickBooks” competition at an annual event that showcases cutting edge businesses management tools and technologies. The Awesome Add-ons award recognizes software programs, web-based applications and services that help enhance QuickBooks by giving users additional tools for managing their businesses.  To qualify, technologies must seamlessly integrate with QuickBooks, and offer superior design, ease-of-use and conformance with appropriate accounting standards.

7 Steps to Better Keyword Search Results

10/22/2009

KeywordsIf you have a website – even a modest one – or use pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, using the right keywords or keyword phrases is vital to success. Well-chosen keywords give you a better chance of showing up near the top of search results. But not just any results. What you want are the most relevant searches conducted by your best prospects.

Keywords tell the search engine robots what your business is all about. Selecting good ones is harder than you think. The bots aren’t really that smart, so you have to be clever in what you feed them. Experts at Network Solutions, a top domain registrar and web hosting firm, compare it to placing “bait” on your site. The bait attracts the search engine “spiders” that crawl billions of website pages and index what they find.  Most entrepreneurs use common sense to create keywords. That’s fine, since they must appeal to real people as well as search spiders.  But many keywords are not common sense, and anything you come up with still must be properly implemented to be effective.

Here are 7 steps to improving your keyword power, drawn from experience here at Business.com as well as Network Solutions: Read the rest of this entry »

10/06/2009

PART II:  In Part I of this piece I profiled Google Product Search, a still little known (but free) service that lets you submit your own product information so potential buyers can more easily find what you are selling.  The key to Searchsuccessfully listing your products is to provide Google with the right information on your products — that is, the specific “attributes” they are looking for, and not necessarily the way you describe your products on your own website or in marketing materials.

The attributes below come from inside Google itself, so they are a surefire way to improve your results in search listings if you use them right: Read the rest of this entry »

Avoid Awkward Phone Calls with Slydial Voicemail

05/12/2009

slydial-blackberryEver called someone’s cell but hoped you’d get voicemail…got finger cramps tapping out a terribly long text message…or disturbed a client or prospect too early in a different time zone? Slydial is a hot new service that entrepreneurs and small business owners are using to avoid sticky phone situations like these and go directly to someone’s mobile voicemail without them knowing.

The Slydial service connects you directly to  the voicemail of any U.S. mobile user, regardless of their carrier or location.  And it works from any phone, land line or mobile (but it doesn’t connect to land line voicemail).  It’s free if you don’t mind listening to a brief (but annoying) ad each time you use it.  Or buy the service for $29.95 per year and skip the advertising aggravation.

But Slydial isn’t foolproof. When I tried it, the system said it was unable to connect me to voicemail.  But moments later I received a return call from the person I was trying to leave a message for, saying his phone rang once and my number showed up. So be aware this might happen.

Here’s how it works, plus some user tips and “Slydial Situations” where you might find it handy for your business:  Read the rest of this entry »

Findings vary a bit, but some 90 percent of online buyers say they read customer reviews at least “some of the time” when they are available, and 71 percent agree that customer reviews offer comfort that they’re buying the right product or service from the right place.
